Psychotherapy and Counselling
It would be easy to describe the benefits of psychotherapy and counselling as well as the differences between them but in order to avoid repetition please refer to the Tavistock (widely considered to be the centre of excellence for psychotherapy in the UK).

I carry an approach to work by striving to create the best possible conditions to balance in the most supportive, open way whatever is difficult for the person. It is usually already a major step to have taken to come and see someone. A safe, supportive and private environment helps clients feel more at ease and therefore more able to share and explore whatever the issues are.
This approach is client led and works with and for the client to enable them to identify for themselves their needs and difficulties and what strengths and resources they have to deal with them.
Sometimes simply listening is what the person requires; another time it is encouragement in finding new, creative , and innovative ways of drawing on their own strengths. Ultimately the aim is that the person works through the difficulties emerging stronger, more secure and regaining hope for the future. In some cases people will choose to make significant and positive changes in their lives.
